A huge thank you from all of us at Connect Sports Academy to South African internationals Steven Kitshoff and Makazole Mapimpi!
The Springbok duo have both donated to support our athletes on their journey to becoming rugby stars in their own right.
We were even presented with our first giant novelty cheque at our group training session on Saturday.
Steven and Makazole’s contributions come through their association with MyPlayers, the South African rugby players organization.
Ex-Stormers fly-half Isma-eel Dollie (pictured below, far left) joined us at our Burgundy High Performance Centre home to present the cheque, meet some of our athletes and catch up with what we’re up to this off-season.
Isma-eel, who is now the player relationship manager with MyPlayers, has been great in his assistance and support of our athletes.
It’s inspiring and instructive for our young people to build meaningful relationships with their role models, who have already trodden the path they aspire to.
We hope to make the most of these opportunities for our athletes to understand the commitment, responsibility and sacrifice required to play at the top of the sport.
Role models part of the bigger Connect picture
As our first cohort of athletes reach the end of their school lives, we’re dedicated to providing them with pathways to succeed, on and off the rugby field.
While those with a chance of reaching the professional game will continue their development towards that end, Connect is committed to providing opportunities for all of our athletes to grow into the professional, adult world.
2019 will see our first crop based at the High Performance Centre, where they will gain work experience and qualifications under our guidance.
We can’t wait to get started!
