It’s a one-man show this Easter Weekend, as our Grant Khomo Week hooker Lukhanyo ‘Boepa’ Vokozela plays the Saints Sports Festival with the Rondebosch Boys’ High School rugby first XV.
With our other school-age athletes and our crop of Union Milnerton Under 20 players not in action over the public holiday, it’s all eyes on Gauteng.
Boepa is part of a side that will play three fixtures in five days at St Stithians College in Johannesburg.
After flying up from Cape Town on Wednesday, our long-serving front row and his team-mates will first take on St Andrew’s (kick off 14:45) on Thursday.
Their competition continues on Saturday lunchtime when they face Grey High School from Port Elizabeth (12:15).
Bosch polish off the long weekend with a 10:30 fixture against Northcliff High School.
Solid start to the school rugby season
Boepa has enjoyed a productive start to the 2019 season following an off-season with his fellow Connect athletes at our home, Burgundy High Performance Centre, in Cape Town.
He has made the step up to senior rugby at Rondebosch this year alongside Lamla Nunu, with both boys having begun their rugby journey with us back in 2015.
The pair were both involved last weekend as Rondebosch beat Boland Landbou 36-26 in Cape Town.
