Connect athletes star at national touch rugby

Meet our 2019 JIPT gold medalists.

Our young rugby hotshots returned to their roots last weekend to represent the Western Cape at the national touch rugby.

Better still, they came away with quite the medal haul from the junior inter-provincial tournament in Cape Town.

Flash Kawaya and Lutho Mpande were gold medalists in the Under 19 boys section, while Ilitha ‘Mister’ Ntinini, Aya Machuli, Thando Sigingo and Endi Apolisi won gold at U15 level.

Connect even supplied the referees

We’re all about consistent access to quality resources and opportunities at Connect.

That means using sport to help young people develop beyond just playing rugby.

It’s especially exciting for us that Banele Ncoyo and Newman Makovere were selected to referee at the competition.

The pair have been with us since our early days in the township of Khayelitsha, Cape Town, and are testament to our commitment to the long-term development of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Thank you to our friends at the Western Cape Touch Association for their work in hosting the event and for involving our young people.

Help our athletes rise through rugby

We’re always in need of sponsors and donors to support our work in providing consistent access to quality resources and opportunities for young South Africans.

If you or your company can help, we’d love to hear from you so please get in touch. Connect is a registered non-profit company and can issue a Section 18(A) certificate for South African donations.
