Connect athletes meet the Bulls after Stormers game at Newlands!

We sprung a surprise on our leading youngsters after watching the Stormers vs Bulls Super Rugby match in Cape Town.

Our leading athletes came face to face with their rugby heroes on Saturday when they met the Bulls team following their Super Rugby match against the Stormers at Newlands.

Several of our provincially-capped players and high school scholarship recipients came together in Cape Town for the game.

But they didn’t realize quite what was in store for them afterwards.

Along the pitch and down into the Newlands tunnel they went before turning left, only to be greeted by former All Black coach John Mitchell.

The Bulls head coach even gave our boys his verdict on the match before sharing it with the world’s media.

And there was more to come.

Lizo Gqoboka stopped by to give all the Connect athletes a pep talk.

Strauss sees Connect potential

Ex-Springbok captain Adriaan Strauss was a little more to the point, saying: “What are you all doing down here? We need you with us in Pretoria!”

After mountainous locks Lood de Jager and RG Snyman had just about squeezed in for a photo, as well as Handre Pollard, our boys headed into the away dressing room itself.

There they were greeted by Jesse Kriel and local lad Travis Ismaiel, who shared a few more top tips with our aspiring professionals.

A massive thank you to John Mitchell, his backroom team and the Bulls players for arranging something that will stay with our youngsters for the rest of their lives.

Positive role models are vital to kids, on and off the sports field.

For our boys to experience first hand the culture of professionalism, humility and respect within the Bulls was a fantastic experience.

We’ll be encouraging our players to take what they’ve seen and use it as individuals, as members of Connect and within their school teams.

And if they want to support the Bulls now? That’s okay too!

We’d love for you to sponsor one of our high performance athletes, or make a direct donation to support the work that we do.
