Connect Athletes In Action: 17 August

Where to catch our rugby players this weekend.

Our attentions are shared between the international and the school rugby stages this weekend, as the Connect Sports Academy athletes do their thing in Cape Town and Wellington.

Here are the details.

SA Schools A vs Argentina

Lukhanyo ‘Boepa’ Vokozela completes the Under 18 International Series rugby action with the SA Schools A squad.

They take on Argentina in Wellington with kick off at 11:15 and you can catch all the action live on SuperSport 7.

Rondebosch vs Bishops

There might be a Boepa-shaped hole in the Rondebosch Boys’ High School First XV this Saturday but the other half of our Connect double act will be on duty to complete the school season.

The second installment of the southern suburbs derby in Cape Town sees our front row star Lamla Nunu polishing off his first season of senior rugby, with the main game kicking off at 12:15.

Wynberg vs SACS

Our cohort of SACS-based school-age athletes also have a rivalry on their hands as they make the short trip to Wynberg Boys’ High on Saturday morning.

You can catch Aya Machuli, Akha Mjawule and Ilitha ‘Mister’ Ntinini in U15 action with the A team fixture at 9:10 and live online right here.

It means they go up against fellow Connect athlete Ridhau Bey for the second time in 2019, as he lines up for the home side.

Niche Koopman also brings the curtain down on his first campaign in blue and white hoops, while Eugene Solomons closes his first senior year.

Also in action…

We have a bundle of school-age athletes in our system who are not going down the scholarship route.

They finish their school season in the colours of Jan van Riebeeck High School with a game away to Dirkie Uys.

A huge thank you to the coaches and parents at JVR, who have been so supportive of our youngsters throughout the 2019 campaign.
