Congratulations to our leading Under 13 athletes, who celebrated the end of their time with Vusa Academy on Friday.
Vusa, our junior playing partners, put on a graduation ceremony at Langa Stadium to mark the boys’ progression to senior rugby next year.
It’s only the beginning for our young rugby players
We are committed at Connect to ensuring that we provide the pathways for these youngsters to continue their development, on an off the rugby field.
From this crop, Western Province-capped Akha Mjawule and Aya Machuli will start high school life at SACS in Cape Town in January 2018.
We also have ongoing plans for the other Connect athletes making the step up.
You’ll be hearing more about Thando, Siya, Njongo, Mister, Melumzi and Kabasu in future.
Also pictured is Endi, who was a part of the U13 side throughout 2017 despite being a year younger. He’ll get a second certificate next year!
Connect/Vusa partnership is transformation in action
Connect and Vusa youngsters joined together in Langa to represent Busy Bee RFC for the first time this season.
Going toe-to-toe with some of the region’s leading rugby schools was a memorable experience for the U13 group.
Through their performances against the likes of Bishops Prep, Sun Valley and Primrose, the boys were a great example of the talent that exists outside of traditional rugby structures.
Thank you to the coaches, staff and volunteers involved with the Vusa programme for their work during this year.
We’re looking forward to evolving our partnership over the coming months.
Together we intend to continue providing long-term, life-changing opportunities for the young people in our care.
