Congratulations to three of our athletes on their selection to represent Western Province this weekend in Oudtshoorn.
Two of our Under 16 athletes, Lukhanyo ‘Boepa’ Vokozela and Lamla Nunu, will travel to take part in the annual coastal tournament on Friday.
Our duo head to the Klein Karoo ahead of the selection of the final 23-man squad that will play at Grant Khomo Week in Kimberley next month.
Boepa and Lamla have made a storming start to their first rugby season with Rondebosch Boys’ High School.
Both boys began their scholarships in Cape Town’s southern suburbs in January.
Their U16 selection comes less than a year after they became two of Connect’s first national champions.
Hooker Boepa was Man of the Final and Lamla a starting prop for the U15 Western Province Iqhawe Week-winning side in 2017.
Thank you friends of Connect!
We’re grateful to the families of several of their Rondebosch team-mates for stepping in to assist with accommodation and transport for the boys over recent weeks.
It’s been a huge help during a busy training and school exam period and, if you’re also able to help our stars of the future, please get in touch!
The boys are also supported by the Woodstock branch of Timbercity in Cape Town as part of our athlete sponsorship scheme.
We’re delighted, too, for Niche Koopman, who has received a call up to the Western Province U13 squad.
Niche will make the same trip along the coast at the weekend ahead of their final squad selection.
It’s a fantastic achievement for our forward, who is in just his second year of organised, competitive rugby.
He’s even being mentored by Ilitha ‘Mister’ Ntinini, who went through the same Western Province process last year!
