Boepa & Lamla: Iqhawe Week champs with Western Province!

Congratulations to Lukanyo ‘Boepa’ Vokozela (pictured left) and Lamla Nunu, who have become Connect’s third and fourth national rugby champions in the space of a week!

Our athletes were part of the Western Province squad that beat Boland 7-5 in the final of the Under 15 Iqhawe Week in Johannesburg on Thursday.

And it gets even better, as Boepa was awarded Man of The Match as WP sealed the crown.

After Province sealed a 20-10 victory over Kwa-Zulu Natal on the first day, they stepped up a gear on day two to beat the Blue Bulls 29-3 at the Bill Jardine Stadium before Thursday’s tense finale.

Their success comes hot on the heels of Connect’s first national champions last weekend, as Akha Mjawule and Ilitha ‘Mister’ Ntinini were part of the winning Western Province team at the U13 7s tournament in Bloemfontein.

Boepa and Lamla have both played their rugby in 2017 at the Western Cape Sport School in Kuils River, Cape Town, after being accepted on scholarships in January.

The pair have been with our academy since our early days running training sessions on a dusty field in Makhaza, Khayelitsha, and we’re hugely proud of how far they have progressed in less than three years of playing rugby.

We’re thankful to Timbercity’s Woodstock branch in Cape Town for their continued support of Boepa and Lamla, as well as Lutho Dyalvane, through our player sponsorship scheme.

Now may be a good time for you or your business to join them in sponsoring a Connect athlete – success is good for your brand, you know!

We’d love for you to sponsor one of our high performance athletes, or make a direct donation to support the work that we do.
