Akha Mjawule

A national rugby sevens champion with Western Province, Akha has proven himself to be one of the most coachable athletes in our programme – quickly picking up, then mastering, any skill he’s taught.

Allied to his intelligence, big match temperament and dependability, Akha can be extremely proud of how far he has come having only played rugby since 2015.

The flanker-turned-scrum-half (yes, really!) has continuously displayed a remarkable ability to remain level-headed, inquisitive and conscientious throughout his time with Connect so far. These qualities have seen him awarded a full bursary for SACS high school in Cape Town, where he starts alongside fellow academy member Aya Machuli in January 2018.

Akha has been living in our Connect clubhouse in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, since being selected for the Western Province U12 squad in August 2016.

There, he has flourished under the care of our coaches, with enhanced nutrition and tutoring helping him to continue his journey towards fulfilling his undoubted potential.

We’d love for you to sponsor one of our high performance athletes, or make a direct donation to support the work that we do.
